Made up of either porcelain or composite, veneers are directly applied to the surface of the teeth, covering up small chips, cracks and gaps, and addressing discolouration and in some cases, overcrowding and overlapping teeth.
The application of your veneers depends on the material used, but in both cases, we may have to remove a small layer of the natural enamel of the tooth. This is done so that we can shape the teeth in order to better receive the veneers. An impression or digital scan will then be taken, and your veneers will be made for you off-site. When they’re ready to be fitted, you’ll return to the practice, and we’ll apply them to the teeth in question.
We will help determine your suitability for this treatment at an initial consultation with us here at West Street Dental Practice. While the treatment time for veneers is relatively short, and the process is less invasive than it used to be, it is still a permanent treatment and therefore requires a lot of thought. Some patients who require clinical and cosmetic treatment to achieve the smile they’re looking for may also find that other treatments are more suited to them.
